With Covid being an integral part of our lives in 2020 and with no immediate end in sight for 2021, we are all faced with living with Covid and Coping with life under the restrictions placed on us for the greater good.
Whether you like it or not, living with the evolving coronavirus is something we may have to ensure for a long time. The stresses this places on our minds, hearts and bodies is immense, with businesses closing and people losing their jobs and therefore the ability to earn a living, to pay for bills and food.
Yet, we also know that many good things have come from this, including conversations with neighbours that were not always forthcoming, and creative ways shared across social media to save money and relieve stress.
Our usual services have been hindered by the virus too, and although we know our treatments are beneficial to a healthy mind and body, we have been placed under tight regulations meaning we have also had to adapt and be creative.
Stress Busting Routines
There are a few things you can do at home:
1) The shoulder tense – this is a great way of really easily relieving the stress and tension build ups in your neck and shoulders. you can do this either seated or standing up.
Sit or stand up straight, and pull your shoulders up as high as you can whilst facing forward. Hold this for up to 5 seconds (or sooner if this starts to feel uncomfortable – you will know your own body best) and then slowly release and bring your shoulders back down. Do this 5 times
2) The shoulder roll – move your shoulders in big circles firstly backwards for 5 times and then forwards for 5 times. Again this helps relieve tension build up in your neck and shoulders.
3) Breathe – it sounds mad that we are asking you to breathe, but breathing differently really helps focus and clear the mind, especially if you are able to do this in an outside space with fresh air.
Breathe in slowly through your nose and hold this for a count of 3 (please exhale sooner if you need to) and then very slowly breathe out again through your mouth. repeat this 5 times.
