I am a registered mental health nurse and BABCP accredited psychotherapist with experience working in both community and inpatient settings supporting a wide range of clients, including complex post-traumatic stress disorder. I currently work in an NHS setting within a community Talking Therapies service providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Prior to this I worked for a specialist military veterans mental health service providing care co-ordination and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I have over 12 years of experience working in mental health.
My qualifications are:
- Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health – Northampton University
- BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing – Northampton University
- MSc Global Military Veterans and Families Studies – Anglia Ruskin University
- Part 3 EMDR – EMDR Practitioner Level
- Post Graduate Diploma in High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – University of East Anglia.
- Polyvagal Therapy
CBT is an evidence-based therapy that is recommended by NICE Guidelines for depression and anxiety as well as other stress related or physical health conditions that looks at changing how we feel, think and behave. It is based on the concept that thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and physical sensations, may all be interconnected, and that associated thinking patterns can maintain a vicious cycle in which we can become trapped. It is important to note that CBT addresses problems that you may currently be experiencing instead of focusing on those from the past. CBT has been developed over a period of 50 years and is considered to be one of the most reliable therapies for a range of mental health disorders.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a type of psychotherapy treatment that has been shown to be very effective in the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and phobias, continued distressing memories or trauma, and sometimes even depression and addictions. It can be helpful with some forms of pain.
Its purpose is one that is intended to relieve stress and other negative feelings or emotions that can be caused by traumatic memories. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. In fact, both psychological trauma and physical trauma may be linked in some cases, and EMDR may alleviate one or both. I also incorporate a Polyvagal Therapy approach within therapies.
My aim is to help people to find relief from difficulties they are experiencing by guiding them to have a better understanding of themselves and their unique experiences. I pride myself in offering a compassionate and holistic approach to providing advice and signposting for all aspects of life from a biopsychosocial spiritual perspective.
I can offer face to face sessions in a private room in Therapies at Wootton Fields at a mutually agreeable time. I can also offer online therapy which can allow more flexibility. It can be useful for the initial session to be face to face so I can assess your individual needs and if online therapy can be effective, as it is not for everyone.
Each session will cost £70 for a 50-minute CBT session, £80 for a 60-minute EMDR session, or £100 for a 90-minute EMDR session, depending on your needs and most appropriate therapy. This will be discussed during the initial assessment in more detail. Payment will be by cash, card or bank transfer, which can be discussed at the assessment appointment.
I offer therapy to adults only.
