I am a highly experienced psychotherapist, with specialised graduate and post graduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), working primarily in the NHS and also in private practice.
The effectiveness of CBT has been demonstrated across a wide range of mental health problems and is the principal therapy recommended by NICE guidelines. I find that it offers the best way to make sense of emotional, psychological and behavioural problems. Not only does it provide an understanding of how problems develop and are maintained but also the means to make positive changes to how we think, feel and behave. I use the common sense insights of this therapy and its many techniques in a manner carefully tailored to the individual to get fundamental and sustainable change.
I have a special interest in anxiety disorders such as Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Generalised Anxiety but work on a daily basis across a wide range of problems including Depression, Phobias, Body Dysmorphia and Low Self Esteem.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and more general trauma makes up a significant part of my therapeutic work. Trauma-focused CBT is effective here and I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) a relatively new and widely recognised therapy that was specifically developed to work with trauma of all kinds.
Of course, all this must start with and rest upon a compassionate, safe and positive therapeutic relationship. I pride myself that I have the confidence, knowledge and commitment to work together effectively with adults all of ages and backgrounds.
