I am a fully accredited Art Psychotherapist who has worked in the field of mental health for 8 years. I have broad experience of working with individuals who have mild to severe mental health diagnoses, disabilities, behavioural issues, criminality, addictions and self-harm focussing on wellness, recovery and rehabilitation.
My passion for helping people and my life-long love of art, together with watching my Gran using art to help her rehabilitate from a stroke have inspired me to pursue this vocation. I believe that Art Therapy is one of the most inclusive psychological therapies. People with language difficulties, sensory or physical problems, from all cultures and social groups.
Art Therapy celebrates diversity and breaks down walls. It can be incredibly powerful and transformative.
Art Therapy is rooted in the Psychoanalysis model (Freud, Jung et al) Art Therapy has evolved over time and takes inspiration from many psychological approaches. I personally draw from person-centred approaches such as; the psycho-educational techniques; mindfulness & mentalisation based treatments; compassion focussed & cognitive analytical therapies; and practical, holistic wellness, solution focussed recovery.
