Meditation helps to keep the mind calm and peaceful and thus help relieve stress. It can reduce blood pressure, pain response and stress hormone levels and it affects the neural circuits of the brain and affects how we respond to situations. Guided imagery is another gentle form of meditation. A practitioner will guide the client through an experience that is pleasant to the client (e.g. a walk through the woods) using perceived sight, smell, sound, taste and touch when none of these stimuli are present.
